BYTB NewsNotice a change? Yes? No? Well, wait.. this is the old news page?!?!? That's right, for those who have been with us for a long time, you'll notice that BatmanYTB has changed back to the news page we used two years ago. I changed it over when the new 52 hit. And guess what, I don't like the New 52, and while the new news page was alright, I missed this one. While the site itself is still archived, be on the look out for more news being posted!

P.S. - Forums are once again opened!

DC Comics relaunch setting sales record
Batman ComicsSource: LATimes.com

DC Comics is already setting sales records for its upcoming relaunch of 52 superhero titles, a sign that the Superman and Batman publisher's new strategy is garnering fan attention, at least for the moment.

The Warner Bros. unit revealed in a story in Tuesday's Los Angeles Times that pre-orders for Justice League No. 1, which goes on sale Aug. 31, are already higher than 200,000. That makes it the bestselling comic book of 2011. In addition six other No. 1 titles -- Batman, Action Comics, Green Lantern, Detective Comics, Superman and Flash -- have pre-orders higher than 100,000, making them among this year's bestselling comics too.

DC is relaunching its entire superhero line with No. 1 issues over the next month in a bid to simplify and modernize stories and characters to draw new, younger readers. In addition, for the first time it is making all of its comics available on digital devices like iPads the same day they go on sale in stores. It's a two-pronged strategy to revive sales in the slumping comic book market at the same time that comic book characters are being used more than ever by entertainment giants like Warner.

Help Save DC Universe Classics!
Action Figure News
August 17, 2011 (LOS ANGELES) Five years ago, 6" action figures roamed the earth freely, and could be found in virtually every comic book shop and toy aisle, but now it seems they are a dying breed. Mattel Inc. (www.mattel.com) is one of the few companies that is still making 6" scale action figures. However, it was announced in July at San Diego Comic Con that Mattel will be rebranding their 6" DC Universe Classics line at Wave 20 – unless they find enough fans to support it.

Mattel offered a possibility to keep the wave going in the form of a direct order subscription service called DC Club Infinite Earths. This subscription would offer fans nine monthly figures and four quarterly over-sized figures in the first year. In addition, fans and subscribers get to vote on the first of the oversized figures which will also serve as a club exclusive for subscribers only. This is the first time fans can save a line, and keep it going for another year. This subscription service is a chance for the fans’ voices to be heard, and to dictate the direction of a major product line from the world’s largest toy company.

Mr. Freeze Trailer for Arkham City
Video Games
Dr. Victor Fries was a brilliant cryogenics expert whose life took a cruel twist that would see him dedicate his life to avenging the fate of his beloved wife Nora and becoming an archenemy of Batman. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment today released a new video revealing Mr. Freeze in his role in the upcoming Batman: Arkham City videogame.

Published by Warner Bros. Interactive and developed by Rocksteady Studios, Batman: Arkham City will be available beginning Oct. 18 in North America for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

Batman: Arkham City builds upon the intense, atmospheric foundation of Batman: Arkham Asylum, sending players soaring into Arkham City – five times larger than the game world in Batman: Arkham Asylum – and the new maximum security "home" for all of Gotham City's thugs, gangsters and insane criminal masterminds. Set inside the heavily fortified walls of a sprawling district in the heart of Gotham City, this highly anticipated sequel introduces a brand-new story that draws together a new, all-star cast of classic characters and murderous villains from the Batman universe, as well as a vast range of new and enhanced gameplay features to deliver the ultimate experience as the Dark Knight.

DC’s FAQ for the New 52
Batman Comics
DC sent out a FAQ to it's retailers and readers detailing more of what is to come and what we can expect with the relaunch.

One of the most interesting tidbits that will be sure to have Bat fans buzzing...

Q: Does The New 52 undo events or continuity that I've been reading?

Some yes, some no. But many of the great stories remain. For example - Batgirl. The Killing Joke still happened and she was Oracle. Now she will go through physical rehabilitation and become a more seasoned and nuanced character because she had these incredible and diverse experiences.
